Happy Birthday

Jennifer and Samantha

A couple of girls are having a birthday on Wednesday.........
I cannot believe that these two will be 29 years old....

I remember the first day of kindergarten Jen coming home from school telling me all about all the friends she made.
I don't know if she had any clue back then that she'd make a lifelong friend that shared a birth date!

Happy Birthday to the most beautiful girls in the world.

Dad, Mom, Jen & Tim

All I have to say is "someone" was looking down on my daughter on her wedding day and I am grateful for it. The sun was out all day Saturday and Sunday and she couldn't have looked prettier or asked for anything more.
I'm exhausted!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't laughed or danced as much as I did on Saturday and as everyone told me, take it all in....well, I think I did.  Thank heaven for facebook and phones with cameras.  I have been reliving the wedding day over and over as people post pictures.
Here are just 2 of my favorite pictures that I grabbed from one of the many facebook pages...thank you to all of you!

Sarah, Jen and Dan

Here they are sealing the deal  :)

And now....for the first time as husband and wife.....Mr. & Mrs. Timothy Jasovsky!

May you have a long and happy life!!!!

Throwback Thursday

This is myself and hubby on October 18, 1980.....

At the time these bridesmaids dresses were "unique" and those fans LOL  They sure were different weren't they?  My girls look at this picture often and will ask me "what were you thinking?" and I just smile.  I wanted "different"  I didn't want what everyone else was carrying, and man o man, did I ever get it  :)

Then in 1984 I had this cutie.....
She's sitting on the front lawn of our first house with "daddy".
She went everywhere and did everything with him.  They were partners going for bagels or rolls on Sunday morning, she went grocery shopping, to the mall....everywhere with him!

Well, in about 48 hours my "baby" will be marrying her "man" and "Daddy" will be walking her down the aisle and handing her off to someone both dad and I think the world of and wish them the same happy life that we have had for the last 33 years.

I KNOW Tim will make her very happy so as I close I just want to say "Best of Luck Jennifer and Tim!"

I'm hoping I can post some wedding pictures after the weekend.....

See you all soon!

The 3 Amigos

See these 3 girls?  My husband and I always called them the 3 Amigos because whereever you found one you found the other two.  This picture is from 8th grade promotion.

They met in kindergarten in 1989 and have been together ever since......

My daughter Jennifer is the one on the right with her 8th grade diploma in her hand.  Samantha is on the left in the white dress and Elyse is in the center.

These 3 have done EVERYTHING together starting with dancing school, softball, school activities etc.  Jen has moved to 3 different states over the years but that hasn't stopped the girls from visiting and keeping in touch.  They are "BEST FRIENDS".

About 3 years ago Samantha got married to JJ.  Jen was in the wedding as the maid of honor and JJ's cousin Tim was the best man
Since that day in 2009, these two have been inseperable too.  Jen fell in love and went on a journey with Tim, again packing up and moving to Maryland to live with him and start their relationship.
Tonight, these 3 will celebrate Jennifer's bachelorette party by having all the girly girly things like manicures, pedicures, makeup, a nice dinner and then some partying .
Samantha (left) is married and the mommy to Gwen, who will be 3 years old in October and Elyse is going to be a mommy herself in August....and my baby(center) will be a married woman on April 27th!!!!!
They sure have grown up to be beautiful girls haven't they?

I'm so proud of these girls..........

OH...and as another interesting tidbit, Jennifer and Samantha were both born on May 1st 1984 and will now have the same last name.....what more could 2 besties ask for?

Have fun tonight girls!

Just Binding My Own Business

People that know me know that I am not that fond of the actual tacking down of the binding on quilts.  I've definitely gotten better, and I actually don't put it off for as long as I used to but it's still my least favorite thing to do in the quilting process.    Well, I recently had 5 or 6 quilts quilted and they've been kind of sitting around waiting to be finished but out of necessity these 2 were done simultaneously....one was with me in school and getting done on my break and lunch time, the other was next to the couch and any time I sat to watch tv, I did binding.   The triangle quilt is for the August "boy".  I used every single type of kiddie fabric that I had in my stash with the exception of "pinks and purples that were girly".  I let the pink pigs on black go in because they were pigs after all :)
The binding on this one is black and white checkerboard.....I wanted to use my usual black and white polka dot but when I saw how awesome the checkerboard looked I knew I had to change it up......and I'm not sorry I did!!!

The pink quilt below is for the July "girl" and it might look familiar because earlier in the year I made the exact quilt in muted blues for "James" who was born about a month or so ago.  I'd had 2 kits from a while ago that I knew I needed to use up and get them off the shelf and the perfect opportunity presented itself  :)
Thank you Mother Nature for a beautiful day yesterday so I could get some decent pictures of the quilts!!!

So, here's the question of the day......Do you wash baby quilts before you give them to the expectant mother or tell her that it is unwashed and she can use her own favorite baby detergent on it?

Calendar Quilts

While I was at the Pat Speth workshop 2 weeks ago I went with Michelle to her guild meeting where Pat had a trunk show with lots of quilts from her books.  Afterwards the girls in the guild brought up their finished UFO projects and although everyone's projects were wonderful, one of the girl's "Calendar Quilts" were so cute I just couldn't resist!

After the meeting we went back to Michelle's house and she went online and ordered her's immediately.  I figured I could wait until the next day till I got home to order it but I found I could order it from my cell phone and have it quicker.  WELL, who knew I'd get home the next afternoon and the book was waiting for me on my front porch!

It's been 2 weeks now and it was time to open it up, take the patterns out and get to the assembly of one.

I decided to play it safe and start with May.  I didn't want to start April and then not finish and not have May ready to hang so May it is.......

These quilts finish up to 20-1/2 X 28-1/2......

2 Finishes

I don't know if I can consider both of these project "new" finishes but the first one is my Bonnie Hunter 2012 Mystery "Easy Street".  I did finish the assembly back on January 13th and immediately sent it off for quilting but I really did drag my feet on tacking down the binding.....but, last night I finished that and it's ready for delivery to my favorite niece for her new apartment.

This next project is definitely a "new" project.  Back on the 25th & 26th of March I attended a 2 day Pat Speth workshop down at my friend Michelle's guild.
"Heritage Trail" was the first day's class.  There was quite a variety of fabrics used that day.  I used "Serenata" by Samantha Walker for Riley Blake.
I'd originally thought I'd do a twin size but after getting enough blocks assembled for a lap size I decided I'd stop right there and make it that size.

I've made a lot of quilts over the years...some I love so much (like the Easy Street) that I wonder how I could ever give it away and then there are some I just say "ack-it's ok".  This quilt is one of those that I don't know how I feel about it.  I'm going to reserve judgement until after I see it quilted and bound.....

Autism Awareness Month

In order to highlight the grow ing need for concern and awareness about autism, the Autism Society has been celebrating National Autism Awareness Month since the 1970s. The United States recognizes April as a special opportunity for everyone to educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community.

Join the Autism Society in getting involved with the autism community this April.

Put on the Puzzle! The Autism Awareness Puzzle Ribbon is the most recognized symbol of the autism community in the world. Autism prevalence is now one in every 88 children in America.
I work in a Middle School where we have a classroom of just Autistic children and although they have their days, I have to tell you, once in a while one will come into my office and do something so out of their spectrum that it makes my day!
I assembled a quilt and had it quilted back over Christmas vacation and now it's on display in the main office lobby of the school.  We are selling raffle tickets to win the quilt this week when we go back to work......
The money will benefit the class by allowing them money to go on trips and do things outside the classroom.
Happy National Autism Awareness Month!
