Sewing Machines

My first machine was a New Home that I got for Christmas in 1985, but unfortunately I lent it out about 5 years ago and never got it back. The next machine I bought was the Elna 2006. It's a great machine but not computerized so it's mighty noisy. Don't even try to listen to the radio when this one is sewing. I got it in my head that I NEEDED a machine that did embroidery so the next machine I got was my Bernina Artista 165 from hubby as a Birthday/Christmas present in about 2004 or 2005, I can't remember the year. This is the machine that I use on a daily basis and pretty much still like working with.
I also have a Singer Featherweight that I bought on the internet
probably 15 years ago. At the time I had it set up and did use it a LOT.....When I redid my sewing room I just didn't have space to keep it and all the fabric I'd accumulated out so I packed it up and it's been sitting in it's little case for probably 7-8 years.
I did run it this morning and it works like the day it was made!!!
Over time I've picked up a Janome DC2010 and also a Bernette50 that I occasionally take out and sew with, but not often :(

And, last but not least is my Baby Lock Quilters Edition machine that is on the Grace Frame in my upstairs sewing room. I am STILL having trouble getting quilts loaded on it but I think this winter I'll devote more time to it and if I don't "GET IT" then the frame will get sold and I'll just send quilts out to a longarmer....plain and simple!!! The sewing machine sews beautifully so it will just get set up on a table upstairs and i'll use that for piecing.
Hope you enjoyed my walk down the sewing machine lane with me.

Wow, Peg, you must be the machine-queen! I love the Featherweights, can't beat them, but I don't have one. My first machine, a mechanical Kenmore that came out before computerized machines, was bought in 1968. I used it until about 20 years ago when I bought my second machine, also mechanical, a basic Pfaff. That's the one I keep out and use all the time. I don't have any whistles or bells on either, both are all mechanical with no electronics or computerization, so I can't do anything like embroidery with them, but I can service them myself! :)

I second Barb's "wow!". enjoyed reading abt your machines. No wonder you turn out so many nice projects. I only have 1 mechanical Kenmore. My husband bought it for me when I was pregnant with my first child. She's 32 yrs old. Pineland's Barb services my machine. She does a great job of keeping my machine "purring". Enjoy all your neat machines!

I also have a little computerised bernette for "going out". She is light & reliable. DD uses her too.

Yikes! Peg, you're pretty close to having to file for a business license -- Peg's Sewing Machines...lol I bought my very first sewing machine (originally I used my mom's)24 years ago, a Bernina Record 930, which I still have and use. Then I decided to upgrade to the Aurora 440 a few years back. I don't see myself making anymore sewing machine purchases in this lifetime! Out of curiousity, however, what is the problem with the Grace frame? I've heard nothing but good things about this frame. Inquiring minds want to know!

Hi, Peg
A very nice blog. --I'm visiting from BPF and putting your blog on my reader.
Please don't give up on your Grace Frame. Maybe some of us can help or better yet... there probably is a Yahoo group for Grace Frames. And probably a Grace website. I find quilting on my frame SO freeing! --and FUN! I hope you can get to that place, too.
Thanks for sharing your machine photos. The FW is so cute.

Oh thank you for the tour of your wonderful machines!! I don't feel so bad now that I have two sewing machines and one overlocker (serger) plus my M.I.L's old singer in it's beautiful cabinet. I have two Brother sewing machines and absolutely love them plus a Janome overlocker. My sister has my mum's old Elna Lotus which I'm putting my name on once my sis doesn't want it anymore.... recently went to a quilt shop which had a Singer Featherweight for sale.... Aussie Dollars $1000 !!! I admired it and would you believe it... the shopowner said "I'd rather have an Elna Lotus if I could get my hands on one".... I never said a word!!!

Happy Sewing...
